GAH! That’s the noise you make when you realise there are only three Friday’s left before Christmas.
It’s a crazy time in the FloSocial office and like the rest of the world we’re looking forward to some much-needed downtime. But before then, aside from Christmas shopping and dotting all our I’s and T’s we’ve got a lot to do. The social media world never sleeps. We live in a digital world which infiltrates every aspect of our lives. Studies conducted by Statista revealed 88% of Australians are accessing the internet on a daily basis and social networks play a starring role. Even if you are shutting up shop for the break, it’s vital for your business to have a social media strategy over the holidays.

Most Facebook and Instagram users don’t stop checking their accounts simply because it’s Christmas. No one wants to work over the holidays, so now while you’ve got two and a bit weeks get planning and preschedule your content in advance. It’s not too late.

There are some super handy apps that can help you schedule your holiday content. Facebook has its own inbuilt scheduling tools, but for Instagram we like SkedSocial (formerly known as Schedu.gram. It’s relatively straight-forward to use and allows you to plan your content in advance.

Christmas/New Year period is the ideal time to promote products. Many social media users are looking for Boxing Day sales and those who’ve indulged in too much Christmas pudding are looking for personal trainers or nutrition plans.

Traditionally, most Aussies are camping, at the beach, firing up the BBQs and making the most of the great outdoors, but one thing that remains constant is their phones are rarely out of reach.

A few hints of posts during the festive season:

Keep your posts light and entertaining

Your followers come to Facebook and Instagram to have fun. No one really wants to have doom and gloom or reminded that the holidays will soon be a distant memory and everyone will be back to the grindstone.

Get into the spirit of the season

Christmas giveaways are a great way to draw people on to your social media network and create brand awareness. Take a leaf from Ellen DeGeneres highly successful 12 Days of Christmas giveaways. It’s sure to keep your followers coming back every day. Update your cover banner with Christmas flair. Think of it as a roadside billboard for your company.

Give back to the community

Random acts of kindness and sharing the magic of Christmas with those less fortunate will boost your feel-good vibes and show your customers you’re not all about making sales. You could film your employees handing out gifts to less fortunate families (don’t forget to get their permission to share it online) or donating food to the RSPCA.

Our FloSocial team is taking a short break from to recharge our batteries, but we will be checking emails in the case you have a social media emergency. We’ll be back in 2019 ready to kick some serious social media butt and roll out our brand new courses.
